General IRC
Usage Policy
Users connecting to an
IRC Network server must be aware of the
following:
IRC is an unmoderated medium.
In most cases, the IRC network you join
is not responsible for anything you may
see/receive on the network.
The Administrators, Net Operators,
users, committee members, resource
providers, or any other agents are not
liable for any damage caused by your use
or the inability to use the IRC network.
The IRC network reserves the right to
define and determine any information to
be prohibited from, or allowed on the
network with or without the accord of
any nation's laws.
On most servers, the policy is that a
user is free to create whatever channels
he or she likes and discuss whatever she
or he likes. To achieve this
freedom, there are a number of rules to
safe guard the IRC servers and any users
connected.
You must agree to abide by the
following rules while connected to an
IRC server:
- No faked or altered user@host
information;
- No denial of service ("DoS")
actions or abuse of resources,
including but not limited to
flooding, cloning, mass-messaging,
and mass-inviting, will be
permitted;
- Passing of known computer viruses
to other users
- Unsolicited advertising to users
is not allowed;
- Slanderous, hate and/or abusive
channel topics or channel names are
not tolerated
- Channels of an adult nature are to
be clearly marked so at the start of
the topic. Entering
channels marked 18+ or 21+ when
underage is not permitted.
- Each server's administrative team
retains the right to deny access to
or use of its server's resources to
any user(s), group, site, or domain,
without the benefit of prior warning
or notification if they so choose;
- You must also agree to comply with
any additional guidelines on the
MOTD (if any) of the server to which
you are connected.
- By connecting to any IRC server,
you agree to comply with the
Acceptable Use Policy as well as the
policies of the individual servers,
which are stated on each server's
Message of the Day ("MOTD")
(if any)
Your attention and compliance with
these regulations is greatly
appreciated.
Hate channels, defined as any channel
which negatively targets a group of
people based on race, religion or
culture, are not permitted.
IRC operators normally have the
authority to handle these situations
immediately in the following manner:
- For slanderous/hate/abusive
channel topics, the Net Operator
will request the channel topic be
changed, or the channel be set to
mode +s so the topic does not show
up in a channel list.
- For slanderous/hate/abusive
channel names, the Net Operator will
request that the channel be dropped
if registered, or vacated if not
registered.
- If the Net Operator is not
successful in 1 and/or 2, the Net
Operator has the authority to drop
and/or otherwise secure the channel.
- If a user, after being warned,
continues to make slanderous, hate
and/or abusive channel topics or
channel names, the Net Operator has
the authority to set an akill on
that user for no longer than one
day.
- If a user is found to passing
viruses, or other actions under rule
2, then an immediate akill can be
implemented. The user should
email the server admin if they wish
to challenge the action.
- If a Net Operator becomes aware of
other transgressions, the user shall
be warned first and asked to stop
the action(s). If the user
persists, then stronger action may
be taken.
