Memo Services

Services are provided to make your IRC'ing life more enjoyable. This file is to help answer any questions you may have about memo services. If you have questions which are not answered in this document, please join the help channel advertised for your irc network.

Memoserv is used to 'get messages to those that are not on Dreamwave.' It is similar to email, but the memo can only be accessed while on IRC. MemoServ is a utility which allows IRC users to send short messages to other IRC users, whether they are online at the time or not. MemoServ will hold messages up to 14 days (or whatever your net has specified). If this time expires, you will never see the message in the memo again (unless you logged it.)

Commands:

Note: To use memoserv, your nickname must be registered and you must have identified to nickserv.

Some of the Memoserv commands include:

Type /msg memoserv help command for help on any of the below commands.  Remember '/ms' is a recognised shortcut instead of '/msg memoserv'.

Information contained inside brackets <> are items where YOU determine what should be typed; for example, in the command /msg memoserv send <nick> <message>, you would substitute the nick and message you have chosen. DO NOT type the brackets <>.

Send:

/msg memoserv send <nick> <message>

For an example: /msg memoserv send Joe hey!! sorry i missed you last night.. will you be on tonite?

This command sends a memo to another user.

List:

/msg memoserv list

This lists any memos you may have

Read:

/msg memoserv read all/number

If you use the read all, it will read all of the memos you have at the time being
example: /msg memoserv read all
-MemoServ- Memo 1 from Joe. Sent: Fri Apr 10 04:39:42 1998
-Memoserv- Hi!
-MemoServ- Memo 2 from Bell. Sent Fri Apr 10 10:43:51 1998
-Memoserv- I missed you!

If you use the read number, memoserv will only read the memo you specify by the number
example: /msg memoserv read 2

-MemoServ- Memo 2 from Bell. Sent: Fri Apr 10 10:43:51 1998
-Memoserv- I missed you!

Del:

Note: It is suggested that memos be deleted as soon as possible to prevent building them up.
This command deletes the memos you specify, or all of them. This can come in quite handy if you don't want to wait 14 (or whatever your net has decided) days for them to expire.

/msg memoserv del all/number

This basically works like the read command, if you choose del all, it will delete all of your memos.
example: /msg memoserv del all
-MemoServ- All of your memos have been deleted.

If you choose del number it will only delete that one memo
example: /msg memoserv del 1
-MemoServ- Memo 1 has been deleted.

News:

This will display the news posts to the given channel. NOTE: To send/read news posts to a channel, you must have at least level 1 access on the given channel. Also, NEWS will only show posts that are new since your last NEWS request.

Send News:

/msg memoserv send #channel <news>

This is a modified memo; it posts it to a channel instead of a single user. You MUST have at least level 1 on chanserv in the channel you wish to send and/or read news from.

example: /msg memoserv send #Chatzone hey! look at me!

Read News:

This is just like reading a memo but it reads every memo that was posted to the channel from the last time you checked them. (If you haven't checked the news in a long time, there might be a lot so prepare yourself.)

example: /msg memoserv read #channelname all

Ignore:

The MemoServ ignore feature is much like the /ignore command, but this only filters out any memos from someone you have placed on your memoserv ignore list. If you wish to completely 'ignore' someone, you should utilize both the /ignore command as well as the memoserv ignore command. It is not possible to ignore someone based on nick. Remember that if you ignore one person on a certain user@host, you ignore everyone at that user@host.

To find a person's user@host, you can use the list feature in nickserv ( if they have registered their nick), /whois <nick> if they are currently on IRC or /whowas <nick> if they have left IRC and do not have a registered nickname, although they may not be in the whowas database, depending on the time they were last on. .

Ignore Add:
To ignore someone type /msg memoserv ignore add user@host
If their nick@host looks like this: kenny@ppp123.plop.net.au
You would then choose to ignore kenny@*.plop.net.au, hence the command would look like this:

/msg memoserv ignore add kenny@*.plop.net.au

Ignore Del:

To un-ignore someone from your MemoServ ignore list, you must delete them by host@mask, as you added them.
To un-ignore kenny@*.plop.net.au you should type:

/msg memoserv ignore del kenny@*.plop.net.au

Ignore List:
This is used to get the list of user@host's which are currently on ignore for your current nick.

Type: /msg memoserv ignore list
